The partnership between the print maker David Lucas and the painter John Constable produced some of the most remarkably 'painterly' prints ever produced. Lucas's skill was prodigious and following the original designs and drawings of Constable, he used the technical possibilities of the mezzotint process to create the most wonderful chiaroscuro light and shade effects, displaying the essence of the pictorial drama of the English countryside and the skies above it.
